Sawston Parish Council has voted to increase the cost of young people playing football in Sawston by 32% in 2010-11. Despite concerns being raised that this increase would potentially make playing football in Sawston untenable the price increase was passed by a majority of the council members.
Sawston United Youth FC has helped to secure £110,000 in funding from The Football Foundation and has directly contributed £2000 of club funds for Sawston Parish Council to build a new pavilion at Spicer's Sports Ground. Once the Parish Council receive this funding they may only increase charges to SUYFC by no more than the annual rate of inflation.
SUYFC feel that both the increase in fees and the timing of this increase contravenes the spirit in which the award of £110,000 to Sawston Parish Council by The Football Foundation was made.
SUYFC is determined to continue to provide the children of Sawston the opportunity to play football for their village football team and despite one councillor's suggestion that if we do not like the increase in price we go somewhere else (Coldham's Common was suggested) to play, we are determined to provide the best coaching and facilities for our players we possibly can and will endeavor to continue to work with Sawston Parish Council to improve the facilities in Sawston.
